Antique Islamic, Central Asia, Quran Container, Koran Prayer Box, 5cm (2″), 58.4 Grams
This is an antique, (over 100 years old) high grade silver octagonal talisman miniature Qur’an case which would have contained inscriptions of verses from the Qur’an from central Asia, Iran or Afghanistan. The Qur'an or the Talismanic manuscript must be small enough and in octoganal shape in order to fit in this box.
The lid is engraved with a geometric design. In Islamic art geometric designs are often built on combinations of repeated squares decorated with many different shapes.
The central rosette motif is engraved of the highly classical Islamic pattern eight fold star pattern (although rather basic in design).
I have placed an attachment loop on the top lid closing, to thread a chain to allow the Qu'ran case to be worn as a necklace. The Qu'ran case has a 53cm (21") antique Afghani high grade silver traditional chain attached with a S clasp for closing.
The hinged box opens.
It has been made from silver sheets with a stamped repousse traditional scrolling flower design around the border of the lid.
