Antique Indian Miniature Pendant, Bala Krishna, High Grade Silver, Glassed, 23 Grams
This is an antique, from the 1800's, Indian miniature water colour painting of Bala Krishna seated on a throne with a dove beneath his seat. Lord Krishna is often depicted surrounded by devotees in the form of animals including the dove.
This is one of a set of five Bala Krishna miniatures that I am selling and they were probably part of a "Life of Krishna" necklace. The pendant is quite a reasonable size at: 5.5 cm (2 1/4").
Krishna is easily recognized by his representations. Though his skin color may be depicted as black or dark in some representations, Krishna is usually shown with blue skin. It is not that his skin was blue, but was referred to as a blue god because he had a blue aura.
Krishna is also depicted and worshiped as a small child (Bala Krishna).
This miniature has been encased in a high grade silver frame and silver backing with two decorative bales, a glass face and floral units added. Bala Krishna has deep gold paint and very finely detailed.
It is very rare to find hand painted pendants like this one these days with real gold paint.
This is an original antique worn collection piece and shows signs of wear commensurate with age on the painting - with surface markings.
The amulet has been strung on a cotton cord.
