Antique Kandaras and Malsara Amulet Pendant, India, 5.8 Grams, (0.205oz.)

This piece is entirely unique and a rare historical artifact made by village craftsmen.  This is a small and RARE antique high grade silver amulet pendant worn chiefly in Rajasthan, India.  The amulet pendant is in the shape of a five-sided, peaked pentagon form, which symbolizes a temple (mandir), and die-stamped with a bale, rolled silver border and a backing plate.

The subject of the amulet is the Kandaras and Malsara whose vehicle is a horse.   On the top leftt is the sun symbol of Surya, and the top right is the moon symbol of Chandra. In Sanskrit Chandra means "bright and shinning".   There is also small monkey under the horse.  The amulet has been strung on a new black Indian traditional handmade cotton thread cord with a looped end. It has been silver tested for high grade silver.  This is a very old (I cannot really date but probably mid 1800's) collection piece in good condition.
