Mughal India Large Bronze Oil Container, Oil Lamp Filler, Northern India, 1.4 Kilos
This is a antique Mughal era bronze Oil Container, Oil Lamp filler. The thickly cast drop-shaped body with flattened sides, rising from a conical foot with cusped edge, has an elegant design of a raised double tear drop medallion on each side of the body. The two shoulders have finals on the ends.
The container is in two pieces with the long tapering decorated spout. The container is heavy in the hand and weighs 1.4 Kilos (3lbs). Both the sides of the container have dings close to the base - as detailed in the listing photos. The long spout screws securely in place and stands straight.
This oil container was used to pour oil into the small oil lamps at festivals.
