Antique Indian Amulet, Bhumiya Raj Pendant, High Grade Silver, 13.20 Grams
This antique, high grade silver amulet pendant is worn chiefly in western Rajasthan, India, by Hindu Rajputs, Jats and others.
On top right is the sun symbol of Surya, and the moon symbol of Chandra. In Sanskrit Chandra means "bright and shinning".
The amulet pendant is in the shape of a yoni or leaf of the sacred fig tree – the bottom pointing ovule, and beautifully die-stamped with a single bale . The amulet has a silver rolled border, and a decorative final at the base of the amulet.
The amulet has natural old age silver tarnish - which can be polished up beautifully.
The amulet has been tested for high grade silver. It has been strung on a traditional black Indian cotton cord with a loop for closing.
The subject of the amulet is Bhumiya Raj a chieftain who died in defense of his property, including villages and their inhabitants. The term Bhumiya is from bhum, meaning "land". Trusted and feared, the deified spirits of these local heroes protect their community by nightly riding a horse around the village to dispel enemies or evil agents.
The amulet has been tested for high grade silver 92.5% approx.
