Antique Small Silver Taviz Amulet, Pendants Necklace, Kerala, South India, 20.6Grams
These are a very small Taviz Pendants at 3 cm (1 1/8") width.
Early 20th century, sterling silver rectangular hexagonal amulet pendant container from Kerala State, South India.
The silver containers are usually one of several units strung on a silver necklace with a central amulet, or belt worn by Kathakali male and female character dancers, as well as for everyday use.
They have been made from a silver stamped sheet with 10 multi loops for the bale. They has been silver tested for sterling silver and have a lovely old patina.
I have strung the beads on an 46 cm (18") new Indian sterling silver snake chain with a 'S' clasp for closing along with four new sterling silver beads. The snake chain also has the facility to unscrew the end to allow for the 2mm chain to thread through the bale.
These are original old worn piece in good condition. There is a wax element in the containers.
