Antique Sri Lanka Copper Beads Necklace & Matching Finger Ring, Sinhalese, Kandy, 51 Grams,
This is a antique, solid copper necklace and finger ring set from Sri Lanka, (formerly Ceylon) and from the old capital city of Kandy in the island's central highlands.
The central focal large rounded oval copper bead, made in three separate parts is decorated with a very fine row of silver and copper twisted wire around the sunken middle section, and a lip is attached around each threading hole on the larger beads. There are four different design beads linked by hand formed copper wire work links.
The beads are made from solid, heavy, old copper and have not been cleaned or polished and they retain the original old copper patina.
Copper is found as a pure metal in nature. The copper being produced today is nothing like the quality of old solid copper in the above necklace and ring. The new copper has a rather high aluminum content and is a different color and density and old copper jewellery items made prior to the mid 1960's of old solid copper are very collectible.
This type of Sri Lankan necklace is very hard to find today. It has a hook for closing.
