Vintage Sri Lanka Necklace, Filigree Bead, Red Glass Beads, 35cm (14″), 12.5Gm
This is a vintage, well worn silver gilt necklace from Sri Lanka, (formerly Ceylon) and most probably from the old capital city of Kandy in the island's central highlands. This girl's necklace is worn at the neckline as a Choker necklace and the length of (45cm - 14 inches).
The necklace has a silver gilt central bicone filigree bead. This is a very delicate, fine bead and there is one small section at the back which is slightly pushed in, but not very noticeable.
It has six deep red/orange coral coloured glass beads (assimilating coral), four very small silver gilt hollow fluted beads with rim, and the terminating beads are long and conical and are impressed with geometric motifs.
The necklace is strung on a silver gilt herringbone plaited chain and an "S" clip for closing.
This type of Sri Lankan necklace is very hard to find today.
