  • Description

This is a large,19th century high grade silver amulet pendant of duo Lord Shiva, worn widely in India. The amulet pendant is in the shape of a five-sided, peaked pentagon form, which symbolizes a temple (mandir), and has the two die-stamped Shiva forms added separately to the backing plate. It has a decorative bale, and a heavy floral design silver border added.
The subject of the amulet is the major Hindu deity Lord Shiva, who is the destroyer god or transformer among the Trimurti, the Hindu Trinity, of the primary aspects of the divine, in which the cosmic functions of creation, maintenance, and destruction are personified by the forms of Brahmā the creator, Vishnu the maintainer or preserver, and Śhiva the destroyer or transformer.
In the Shaiva tradition of Hinduism, Shiva is seen as the Supreme God.
The amulet has been strung on a traditional Indian black cotton cord with a looped end for closing. It has been tested for high grade silver.
The amulet does not hang true center as the way it is made is just off center with slightly uneven length sides.
