This is an original large old worn bale, with a vintage amulet attached.
This relatively new high grade silver amulet pendant depicting the coiled hooded cobra (Vishnu's mount). The cobra is most commonly mentioned in Hindu mythology in representation of Hindu gods, goddesses, and demi-gods, and as a design subject in Indian jewellery.
The cobra/naga is a mount of Vishnu and as such represents knowledge, wisdom and eternity. On either side of the coiled Naga are the Naga and Nagni serpent kings and queens, which are divine in their own right. They are depicted as humans from the waist upwards and snake below that.
The amulet pendant to me looks like it has been oxidized to highlight the beautiful details of the skin and hood on the snake. It has been hand hammered and not cast.
The amulet bale has been tested for high grade silver 92.5% approx. On the back is stamped 80, representing 80 percent silver, but I have silver acid tested tested the amulet in several places and it comes up as high grade silver, sterling.
