Vintage Indian Amulet Necklace, Flowering Tree of Life Pendant, Rajasthan, 58 Grams (2.0oz)
This is a beautiful large vintage, mid 20th century or later, high grade silver amulet pendant of the flowering 'Tree of Life'.
The silver die-stamped amulet (madaliya) is depicted within an arrowhead form, with five bales, glass stones and ghungrus (small bells). A cotton thread has been thread through the bottom rings of the bells, a common practice to stop the tinkle of these small bells and wear from constant rubbing. This can easily be removed.
The amulet pendant is in the shape of the arrowhead form, and often in India today the ancient arrowhead form is said to represent a pipal tree leaf associated with Hinduism and Buddhism, both of which developed at a much later date that when this form originated. The centre red glass stone is in the shape of a stylized leaf.
The amulet has been strung on a black Indian traditional handmade cotton thread cord with a slip bead to adjust the length of the necklace, handmade cotton beads and four old high grade silver beads. This is an original vintage collection piece in good condition.
I have not cleaned the amulet or removed the cotton wrapped around the bottom rings.
The amulet has been silver tested for high grade silver 92.5% approx.
