Vintage Indian Silver Torque, Indian Hansuli, 74 Grams

Vintage Indian Silver Torque, Indian Hansuli, 74 Grams

This is a vintage, solid, one piece high grade silver torque (hansuli), choker. The term hansuli refers to the collar bone, where it rests, with chasing and dot punch stamping design on all four sides and a hook fastening at the back, from Rajasthan, Northern India.

These are worn all over the Gangetic Plain area in northern India. The basic torque form are worn by rural men and women as ornamentation, wealth status symbols and for protection.

The ring is flexible at the opening to allow for placing around the neck. (I have tried it on and it easily slips around the neck).  It is quite light weight (compared to other Indian rigid torques) at 74 grams and comfortable for wearing. It has a lovely soft worn patina.
