Antique Indian Amulet, Uttar Pradesh, Nandi Horns Pendant

 

RARE: It is becoming hard to find this kind of amulet today.

This is a mid 20th century representation of Nandi's horns, Shiva's mount in a Indian folk style chased amulet pendant from the Uttah Pradesh State, in Northern India. Uttar Pradesh is bordered by the state of Uttarakhand and the country of Nepal to the north, the state of Bihar to the east, the states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to the southeast, the state of Madhya Pradesh to the south, and the states of Rajasthan and Haryana and the national capital territory of Delhi to the west.

It has three sturdy bales with round units added and five sets of silver wire dangles.

It has an adjustable cord length secured with a sliding bead. The cotton cord is in new condition and has silver thread decoration.

The last listing photo which I have identified this piece from because of the same style of danges from Uttah Pradesh, on Page 231, Traditional Jewelry of India, Oppi Untracht with the same units used in the dangles.

The amulet has been tested for high grade silver 92.5% approx. some of the dangles are slightly less silver content.
