Antique Indian Bracelet, Antique Indian Anklet, Gujarat or Rajasthan Bracelet, 223 Grams
A COLLECTORS ITEM:
This type of large silver ornament is disappearing in India today and are very rare and hard to come by:
This elegant and simple bracelet or anklet is heavy at 223 grams of high grade silver, and is dated from similar examples from the 1800's. The round bracelet looks like it came straight out of a modern jeweller's studio.
The hollow cast bracelet is made in two parts. It opens when the front screw is removed, allowing the part to open from the back hinge.
This bracelet is most likely from Gujarat or Rajasthan in northern India, and of a type favored by Harijan and Koli women of the Saurashtra region, Gujarat, but also made and used in neighboring Rajasthan.
The bracelet's plain panels have a wonderful patina consistent with its age.
The bracelet will suit a medium size wrist, but is quite heavy to wear. I have a 6 cm diameter wrist and it fits very well.
Inside diameter: 6.5 cm (2 1/2")
Outside diameter: 10.5 cm (4 1/4")
Height of the bracelet at center front: 3.5 cm (1 2/8')
Weight: 223.2 Grams (7.870 oz)
Tested for high grade silver 92.5% approx.
